Family Retreats

". . . looking back it was a moment of change for our family. We listened, laughed together, and realized that caring doesn't mean controlling."

Ramapo's Challenge and Adventure Retreats for families are outdoor educational and recreational experiences that encourage family members to work and learn together; have fun; solve problems cooperatively; and learn about themselves and each other.

Activities, such as canoeing, high- and low-ropes courses (both indoor and outdoor), hiking and orienteering, silk screening, banner making, journaling, and seminar discussions encourage meaningful communication and interactions between parents (caregivers) and children in a structured, supportive setting.

Family Retreats can be organized to serve a wide-range of families. Ramapo is widely known for its ability to adapt programs to children and adults of all ages, including those with special needs.

Parents who have participated in a Family Retreat with their child(ren) report: an immediate improvement in their two-way communication; seeing their child(ren) as capable and competent; and enjoying the time spent together outdoors.

Children who have participated in a Family Retreat with their parent(s) report: having fun and enjoying spending time in the outdoors; having a positive and meaningful shared experience; seeing their parent(s) as more "real" and available to them.
